Meet the Spartan. Hoho!
These photos reminded me how i started on weight training.
Back to my Secondary school days. During Sec 1, guys likes to Arm Wrestle. In my Class, i was never been defeated. This title ended when i was in Sec 3.My school guys started to go about to other classes to compete arm wrestling. Accompanying them, i went about to other classes to compete. I were defeated by Soon Kiat, Johnathan, ShiSen, Jimmy Ling and Yong Ren.
Among them Soon Kiat and Johnathan were the toughest, they train with weights too..
I was very demoralised when Soon Kiat commented that i'm weak and throughout the arm wrestling match, he was toying with me.
I was very unhappy. Being poor, I trained by lifting my table and 5kg of rice bag everyday. Con-currently i started saving everyday. Each day, mum gave me 2bucks for pocket money. It is either i don't eat or i just buy a small piece of bread. I bought myself a fixed dumbbell of 2x 6kg set. I trained very intensely everyday. Training to a extent of 2-3 hours daily. Lifting 1000reps of dumbell curl is a norms to me. When i started to feel the 6kg weight was too light, i crossed over the 2 dumbells and use a single hand to lift. My efforts were not wasted. It was then when i am able to defeat Yong Ren. But the training was still insufficient to beat the rest.
I started saving again. Finally have my 50bucks. I bought a 10kg dumbell. And slowly saving and saving... i bought a weights and train from 10kg - 12.5 - 15 - 17.5 - 20
- 22.5 - finally 25kg. I also bought a barbell to further my training. I went to library and borrowed a lot of books on weight trainings. Studying and researching. My last record was able to lift 22.5kg steadily with my left arm and 25kg steadily with my right arm. When i was able to lift 17.5kg, i finally defeated everyone in arm wrestling. The whole of upper sec classes. Non of them could beat my right hand. Yupz, my left hand still lose to a few of them. And my record of doing military pressing was 70kg.
I injured myself when i was in poly, attempting to carry more than 70kg of weights. And therefore i maintain the exercise until i went to NS. I was then officially out from training weights.
